Prolonged Exposure (PE)

An evidence-based treatment for survivors of trauma who are motivated to process their experience and re-engage in activities/situations that may be avoided. PE is an active treatment with assignments in between sessions. This therapy helps reduce: 1) the number of negative thoughts you may have about yourself or others, 2) the frequency that trauma-related memories unexpectedly enter thoughts, and 3) the intensity of anxiety or fear you may have in certain situations that remind you of the event. PE is particularly useful for individuals with physiological symptoms/reactions and continuously plan ways to avoid stressors.
